FAQS

To get the most from your Kaiyu Studio Scented Candles, we have a few tips for you…

- Allow enough time for the wax to completely melt to the edges of the vessel to help prevent 'tunnelling'.

- Trim the wick to 5mm or less before you relight your candle to keep the wax clean and burning nicely.

- Avoid burning your candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time.

- Never leave a burning candle unattended; be sure to extinguish the candle before leaving the room.

- Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.

- Place the candle on a stable, heat resistant surface away from flammable objects before lighting.

One of the sure signs of natural coconut and soy wax is the way that its visual appearance in the vessel may change prior, during and after lighting.

The surface of your candle may look bumpy like a cauliflower or begin to develop holes in the wax; these sink holes are a result of any air bubbles in the wax rising to the surface of the candle. The candle may also look as though it is separating/crystallised; this is known as frosting and it is the process in which the wax is trying to return back to its natural form.

These changes to the visual appearance of the candle are completely normal and does not affect the actual burn quality of the candle.

During the rare warm weather spells in the UK, you may notice that a thin layer of oil sits on the surface of your candles. Our Coconut & Soy wax blend is sensitive to extreme temperature changes, causing the natural oils to separate from the wax, which results in little pools of oil on the top of the candle known as sweating. As well as sweating, any time the temperature changes, candle wax risks pulling away from the sides of the glass vessel.

We can assure you that our candles are crafted and stored in a temperature-controlled environment with minimal fluctuations. However, instances of sweating and/or wet spots can occur during the curing, shipping, storing and general handling of the candle and preventing it is nearly impossible.

Waxes and oils are sensitive to both temperature and light, take care when storing candles or wax melts for an extended period of time.

Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or intense light. Store inside the packaging box or inside a cupboard.

Do not store candles in your fridge or freezer. They are sensitive to extreme cold and heat so it’s best to store them at room temperature, somewhere between 10°C to 25°C.

Do not leave candles in your vehicle for an extended period of time (particularly on hot days) as they may melt or discolour. Extreme temperature changes can cause cracking and separation, both of which can affect fragrance strength and overall candle performance.

Should your candle be left for long exposure to the cold, you should allow the candle to return to room temperature for at least 2 hours before burning it to minimise potential damage.

We hope you've enjoyed burning your Kaiyu Studio candle! Here's an easy way to get the remaining candle wax out of the glass vessel.

- Boil your kettle and pour hot water directly into the vessel, covering your leftover wax.

- Set the vessel aside for a few hours

- Once the water has completely cooled down, you'll notice that the wax has risen to the top of the vessel in its own layer and sits on top of the water.

- Lightly tap the wax and slide it out of the vessel. Dispose the wax into a waste bin.

- Pour the water out and wipe the vessel down with hot soapy water to get rid of any remaining wax residue, the metal wick sustainer and any unwanted stickers.

From our candle wax to the labels placed on each jar, we're incredibly conscious of every part of the crafting process at Kaiyu Studio. Some of our products may have small imperfections and differences – that's because everything is handmade in small batches.

Candle Wax: Our candles are made from a coconut wax formulation that contains a percentage of soy (hydrogenated form of soybean oil) which helps with the decreased amount of black soot, contributing to a clean burn. Each candle is cured for a minimum of two weeks so that the fragrance and wax are fully incorporated for the best possible scent throw before lighting.

Wooden Wicks: We selected natural wooden wicks to create the most cosy, ASMR-worthy gentle crackle whilst you enjoy your candles. The wooden wicks are grown from sappy fruit trees and are naturally processed and sourced from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified mills in the USA. Pat. lumetique.com/patents

Fragrances: We're proud to offer a range of fragrances that are particularly close to our hearts and noses. They are expertly curated, and unlike any you'll find elsewhere. Rest assured we only use cruelty-free, vegan, phthalate and paraben-free oils.

Glass Vessel: Our candles are contained in a reusable glass vessel. Once you have burnt up your candle, we encourage you to come up with creative ways to reuse them. It can be used for a variety of reasons but should not be used as a candle again, or for storing any food items.

Packaging: Each candle is individually contained in a brown kraft box that's ethically manufactured in Yorkshire using either 100% recycled or FSC certified board. Please reuse or recycle the outer packaging.

All of our candles comply with European regulations. At the base of each candle is a round white CLP label which lists the specific ingredients that make up the product. The label also contains warning symbols and messaging to remind you how to enjoy our candles safely.

We operate on a fully transparent approach, everything we use is entirely cruelty free and exposure to toxins are kept to a minimum. However, you are welcome to the full safety data sheets and all allergen details, all you have to do is reach out by email at hello@kaiyustudio.com telling us which candles you are interested in - we will email you back with all the data. We want you to be entirely safe in the knowledge of what you are buying.

We use recycled kraft paper, reusable yet clean bubble wrap and air pillows to package most of your orders. We keep all good boxes received from our suppliers and ensure they are reused where possible, while unsuitable boxes and other waste cardboard are recycled – this hugely reduces the amount of cardboard waste in our studio.

We have to reuse, to reduce wastage and this is our biggest concern. But if everybody reuses, it reduces the amount purchased of newly produced packaging. We're actively working hard to only buy good 100% recyclable materials ourselves. Our next milestone is to switch to 100% Recyclable Kraft Paper Tape by 2022.

To make an effort towards reducing unnecessary paper usage, printed invoices or order dispatch notes are not included as standard in our deliveries.

You will receive separate emails containing your order confirmation and dispatch details so you can of course, choose to print your own copy at home.

However, if you don't have access to a printer and would like a physical VAT invoice, please request this via the Order Notes box at Checkout.
